Franz Joseph I. (Relief)

In 1908, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of his reign, the Society for the Beautification of the City of Chernivtsi erected an Imperial Rock with a portrait of Franz Joseph I (by Julius Zlamal of Czernowitz) on the Habsburg Hill (Fedkowytsch Park) above today's Main University Building and the Archbishop's Residence.

The portrait and dedication plaque were removed by the Romanian administration after 1918. The Emperor's Rock was restored on 18 August 1998, before the Orange Revolution, but was looted and damaged on the night of 4-5 March 2001.
